Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection includes the original Zoo Tycoon game and the Dinosaur Digs and Marine Mania expansion packs. Let your imaginations run wild as you care for more than 100 land, aquatic, and prehistoric animals in your own beautiful zoo.
It’s time to monkey around, because MacSoft has announced that it’s shipping for the Macintosh, a strategy game that puts you in charge of a zoo. It’s available for US$39.99 and should hit store shelves this week.
The Macintosh conversion of Zoo Tycoon 2 includes a special bonus — a DVD featuring film segments and trivial from National Geographic’s “Totally Wild” series. In Zoo Tycoon 2, you build and operate your own zoo, doing everything from setting up the exhibits (making sure the environments are right for the animals, for example), to setting up concession and souvenir stands for the patrons, to making sure the park is well run with maintenance staff and animal caretakers. A “Zoopedia” will also teach players important facts about the animals in their zoos. A 3D graphics engine lets you explore the park from the viewpoint of your customers and the zookeeper, getting up close with giraffes, tigers, crocodiles and more than two dozen other creatures in your zoo. Gamers familiar with the first Zoo Tycoon game will find new building tools and objects, “Photo Mode” options, easier terrain altering capabilities, rivers and more. Rated “E” for Everyone by the ESRB, Zoo Tycoon 2 for the Mac requires a G4/800MHz or faster, Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, 256MB RAM and a 32MB video card. Apple's Games site has turned its attention to, the new Mac game conversion about to hit stores thanks to the efforts of the folks at Aspyr Media. Developed originally by Blue Fang Games, Zoo Tycoon puts players in control of creating a successful commercial zoo. Not only does it need to be a place that customers will want to spend money on and return to, but it has to be a safe and healthy haven for the animals on display, too.
Writing for Apple, Brad Cook advises that players should hit the tutorials first then either load one of the scenarios or create a zoo on preset terrain. You'll be responsible for not just figuring out what necessities will keep your animals happy, but the zookeepers and maintenance staff needed to take care of them. The game was developed for the Mac by Westlake Interactive. Westlake's Mark Krenek, who was responsible for the conversion, noted that the game has a Mac-specific feature you won't find in the Windows version: The ability to run in the background. He told Cook he found this ability useful when he wanted to set up his zoo and let it run while he checked e-mail or did other tasks. Cook also noted that the Mac version of Zoo Tycoon will soon gain Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs expansion pack, which provide Zoo Tycoon players with the ability to create their own versions of Sea World and Jurassic Park.
