Office For Mac Duplicate Contacts

I have exactly the same problem with Outlook 2016 as existed in Outlook 2013 - when I restore from a backup then open Outlook 2016 all of the contacts are duplicated (presumably pulling a fresh set down from Outlook.com). The only difference I can see is that it does not appear to have synced back (yet) so the contacts on Outlook.com are still unique. This issue become so frustrating on Outlook 2013 that I ditched exchange activesync and chose to use IMAP folders instead. That brought its own problems when Outlook 2013 would give up syncing all folders after about a weeks usage. So is there any way to disable contact sync in Outlook 2016?

The contacts are still there in the people app so it is not a great loss to remove then from Outlook 2016. Any help would be much appreciated. Hi, May I know how you restored the backup? From a.pst file? When we import items from.pst files, usually we can see the options to control how the duplicates are handled: As you mentioned it's an Outlook.com account via Exchange ActiveSync, I think you can recreate the account, all the data should be still available on the server. With a new account, you shouldn't see the duplicate. If I misunderstood anything, feel free to let me know.

If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact. Hi Melon, Apologies, I should have been clearer. No, I meant a full backup/restore from an image. At the moment I use Macrium Reflect as my backup solution, and typically keep a 'fresh' image sans software installed so that I can roll back to a vanilla install (though obviously Office 2016 is installed on this base image). Whenever I restore a partition from a backup (even one created the same day), as soon as I open Outlook 2016 it pulls down yet another copy of my contacts.

Yes, if I delete and recreate the account (or even just delete the OST file and let it recreate) it will result in a fresh unique set of contacts. Though as soon as I do a backup/restore it reverts to the stereotypical duplicate contacts. Hope that helps, Cheers, Mark. As a test when I restored from image this week, I deleted all contacts in Outlook 2016 (when disconnected from the network) to see if it still pulled the contacts down (from Outlook.com). Unfortunately, once connected all it did was sync the deletions (so I lost all contacts in Outlook.com). Furthermore, I restored the image again (without deleting the contacts) to see if the reverse was true (whether Outlook 2016 would sync the contacts within the OST file back to Outlook.com), but no sync took place. I assume a sync only happens when there is a 'change'.

Going back to my original post, all I want to do is stop the syncing of contacts from Outlook.com to Outlook 2016. If I could do this, I could live with just using the people app for contact info. OK, the next test I did was to backup the OST files before restoring the base image, then copying them back into their original locations.

This seems to have worked, so I assume Outlook 2016 (and 2013 etc) must work on some time/date trigger which then pulls down a fresh set of contacts. So the next step is to permanently move the OST files to a different partition.

Previously with PST files it used to ask you (when Outlook did not find the file), and you could point it to the new location. However, with OST files it just recreates the file and starts syncing. The only thing I can think of is to make some symbolic links to the files on a separate partition? Ssh keygen windows 10.

Hi CB, Based on my experience, it is not feasible to merge/eliminate duplicate contacts in Outlook 2016 for Mac directly or exclude duplicates when importing contacts. If you want to delete the duplicate contact, you can only delete them one by one.
